Question #229

Your website is sexist!

Your interpretation of scripture as written by the Apostle Paul is incorrect and proves to be a disservice to you and those who sit under you and listen to such rhetoric.

Paul was speaking to a certain circumstance with these churches that his student Timothy was visiting. As children of God we are all called to preach. Mark 16: 14-20, 14Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen. 15He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well." 19After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 20Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

In addition to that you said that woman is the cause of sin in the world when in fact if Adam (man) had not of followed the words of his wife Eve (woman); but the words of God with whom he conversed daily in Spirit; the human race would have been saved from sin. But because Adam was weak-minded and forgot the authority and commands that God gave man and woman in the beginning, he along with Eve sinned and this is what caused us to have Original sin on us.

The word of God says in Genesis 1:26-27, 26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [b] and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

In the beginning God created man and woman in his own image and likeness, he gave them the same power and authority and called them both MAN. When Man sinned in the garden they were cursed and so was their seed. However, when Jesus Christ came he restored us all to our original intent. Which is to be MAN and rule the world the way that our heavenly father first intended us to live. You are teaching doctrine incorrectly and will be punished for this. Also you are encouraging men in your church to rule over their wives through violence and disrespect. God commanded husbands to leave their mothers and cleave to their wives, to love their wives as much as Christ loves the church (it didn't say nothing about you punishing your wife). I have heard men in your church say to women (including me) "how did you get such a good man" like the woman should feel gracious that her spouse is on his job. Yet another incorrect teaching by your church. The word of God says "the man that findeth a wife, findeth a good thing and obtains favor of the Lord." Men are to seek out their wives (hence the reason why they have to leave their momma's) and the additional favor of God that is given to them comes with their wife. All too often men think that the favor of the Lord has to do with them being men when it specifically says in the WORD that this is NOT the case. Teach the word right.

In addition to that, here is another portion of scripture that your church conveniently leaves out and that is that God said for Husbands and Wives to submit one to another. He did not only command women to submit to their husbands. I have seen members of your church talk to their wives and children like dirt. With no respect and no love. Provoking everyone to anger. What does your church have to say about this? Men are not God, you have no heaven or hell to put women or children in... you are wrong and so are your teachings. Women would not have a problem submitting to their husbands if they made it a point to be more concerned about their lifestyles and how they are living as a man rather than concerning themselves with trying to make a decent woman out of their wives as if that is their place in the first place.

YOU take one part of the bible and use them to benefit your personal sexist views. The bible says all have sinned. and fallen short of the Glory of God. The word of God also says you should work out your own faith with fear and trembling. What does that mean ? that means what God puts on your heart and tells you as an individual to do you should not put those same limitations and restrictions on someone else. False prophet is what you are and your church and you will suffer the wrath of the True and Living God for being this and for leading people into hell.

If God as you say hates/despises women and womanhood why then would Jesus reveal himself to women first after raising from the dead? Why didn't he go to the men who he loves so much more than women? And another thing, I do not agree with you when you say that women are completely responsible for the raising of children and that its their job solely to lead the whole world out of sin that was initiated by two people. This is making men less responsible for the things that matter most in life, hence the reason why the men in your church neglect and abuse their families. It takes two people to make a baby!!! so why would you tell people that men should not have much contact with their children. Isn't that contradictory to what Jesus taught?

If I as a woman have to go through my husband in order to get to Jesus or to "learn" why then would God the father have sent Jesus to die for my sins, if I am not permitted to go to him on my own? Paul wrote his letter to the church of Corinthians based on his knowledge of what this early church was going through. And how is it that God would say that he loves me but I am not permitted to partake fully in worshipping him because I am a woman? And why would he go through the trouble of creating women and why would he say that we were created in his image if he doesn't want us to glorify him.

You make God seem like the pimps that you are.

The Answer:

It is difficult to answer this “question.” (The quotation marks are used because this communication is not so much a question as it is an effort to instruct.) While ThyWordIsTruth is always happy to receive either comments or criticisms of that which is taught, the nature of this communication is far different from any that has ever been received. It would be easy to be critical of the spirit in which it is written, but it does not seem that such would be in order here. What is evident from this writer is that, taking her writing at face value, she must have been terribly abused in here life. Where the writer goes wrong is to attribute the approval of such abuse to this website. While she erroneously refers to the church as “your church” (we have no church that belongs to us), the church of the Lord to which we belong has no such teaching. More importantly, the New Testament, which contains the Word that is True, has no such teaching.

There is nothing on this website that is demeaning to women. If the teaching on the woman’s role in the church is that to which the writer refers, she fails to point out any specific article or problem on this website of which she is complaining. The closest she comes is: 1) that we said that woman is the cause of sin when both man and woman were responsible for sin’s entering the world which resulted in original sin; 2) we encourage men to rule over their wives with violence and disrespect; 3) we use the bible to support our personal sexist views; 4) we say that God hates women and womanhood; 5) we teach that a woman must go through her husband in order to get to Jesus or to learn; and 6) we make God seem like the pimps that we are.

It would be of no value here to repeat what Thy Word Is Truth has presented from Scripture concerning the role of women in the church and in worship, but for convenience there is now a search engine that can be used to pull up that information. The reader might begin with Lesson 9 on 1-2 Timothy; Questions: Class – Lessons 4, 13, 18; Questions and Answers – Nos. 22, 29, 41, 49, 65, 210; Lessons on 1 Corinthians – 15, 21; Lessons on 2 Corinthians – 7; Lessons on 1 Peter – 5. Finally, those who would know the teaching of scripture on the relationship between a husband and wife should read Ephesians 5:22 – 33. Clearly any conduct that is characterized by our writer’s complaints is contrary to Paul’s teaching in that passage.

These should be sufficient to establish the falsity of the charges made by the writer; however, given the nature of the writer’s communication she may already have read some of these cites. The problem is that she has read them against her background of abuse and mistreatment. That given, it is not likely that she can read them with an unbiased mind. Our sympathy is extended to her for that which she has endured. No man who has treated her in the manner that she described is engaged in conduct that is condemned by scripture and is most certainly not approved by God.

Perhaps only one of the issues raised is not included in the cites given – the role of fathers in the family. Neither Scripture nor Thy Word Is Truth teaches that fathers are to ignore their children and have no role in their upbringing. It should be noticed that the passage that deals directly with the raising of children is addressed to the fathers and not to the mothers. Eph. 6:4. In this regard Scripture is much ahead of our society. One of the blights of our day is fatherless families. Children need loving fathers to be part of their raising. That truth is now beginning to be recognized by society; great is the price society has paid for its failure to follow that teaching.

God's Plan of Salvation

You must hear the gospel and then understand and recognize that you are lost without Jesus Christ no matter who you are and no matter what your background is. The Bible tells us that “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) Before you can be saved, you must understand that you are lost and that the only way to be saved is by obedience to the gospel of Jesus Christ. (2 Thessalonians 1:8) Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6) “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12) "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (Romans 10:17)

You must believe and have faith in God because “without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6) But neither belief alone nor faith alone is sufficient to save. (James 2:19; James 2:24; Matthew 7:21)

You must repent of your sins. (Acts 3:19) But repentance alone is not enough. The so-called “Sinner’s Prayer” that you hear so much about today from denominational preachers does not appear anywhere in the Bible. Indeed, nowhere in the Bible was anyone ever told to pray the “Sinner’s Prayer” to be saved. By contrast, there are numerous examples showing that prayer alone does not save. Saul, for example, prayed following his meeting with Jesus on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:11), but Saul was still in his sins when Ananias met him three days later (Acts 22:16). Cornelius prayed to God always, and yet there was something else he needed to do to be saved (Acts 10:2, 6, 33, 48). If prayer alone did not save Saul or Cornelius, prayer alone will not save you. You must obey the gospel. (2 Thess. 1:8)

You must confess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. (Romans 10:9-10) Note that you do NOT need to make Jesus “Lord of your life.” Why? Because Jesus is already Lord of your life whether or not you have obeyed his gospel. Indeed, we obey him, not to make him Lord, but because he already is Lord. (Acts 2:36) Also, no one in the Bible was ever told to just “accept Jesus as your personal savior.” We must confess that Jesus is the Son of God, but, as with faith and repentance, confession alone does not save. (Matthew 7:21)

Having believed, repented, and confessed that Jesus is the Son of God, you must be baptized for the remission of your sins. (Acts 2:38) It is at this point (and not before) that your sins are forgiven. (Acts 22:16) It is impossible to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ without teaching the absolute necessity of baptism for salvation. (Acts 8:35-36; Romans 6:3-4; 1 Peter 3:21) Anyone who responds to the question in Acts 2:37 with an answer that contradicts Acts 2:38 is NOT proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ!

Once you are saved, God adds you to his church and writes your name in the Book of Life. (Acts 2:47; Philippians 4:3) To continue in God’s grace, you must continue to serve God faithfully until death. Unless they remain faithful, those who are in God’s grace will fall from grace, and those whose names are in the Book of Life will have their names blotted out of that book. (Revelation 2:10; Revelation 3:5; Galatians 5:4)
