What does the Bible say? He that believeth and is saved shall be baptized? Or he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved? (See Mark 16:16.) And what do you say?

Questions about Baptism? Please read our special lesson on that vital topic, and read about God's Plan of Salvation. Please listen to these gospel sermons that explain why you need to be baptized for the remission of your sins: (1) The Salvation of Man by Eric Owens, (2) The Gospel of Naaman by Eric Hall, and (3) Baptism by N. B. Hardeman. There are only two verses in the Bible that tell you how to get "into Christ" -- Galatians 3:27 and Romans 6:3. What do they tell you about baptism?

Worship in Song

Are you singing without thinking? Or worse, are you leading singing without thinking about the songs you are choosing? Song leaders, like preachers and teachers, have a tremendous responsibility. Does your song leader take that responsibility seriously? Or does he take it lightly? Without impugning anyone's motives, I hope that at least we can all agree with this starting point: (1) it is better to think about what we are singing than to sing without thinking, (2) if a song is counter to what we find in God's word, then that song should not be sung in our worship service, and (3) poetic license is not a license to proclaim error. Singing is an important part of our worship service. Although the church properly rejects the use of musical instruments in worship, we often are not as quick to reject songs that are clearly at odds with the word of God. Many of the songs we sing came from the denominational world, so it should not surprise us that some of those songs contain denominational errors. Indeed, some of the newest song books are the worst in this regard because they were deliberately designed to appeal to and be sold to the denominations that surround us. Thus, for those of us who use these new song books, it is very important that we pay particular attention to the songs that we sing so that those denominational errors do not enter into our worship service. Evolution

Life from lifelessness? Order from disorder? Textbooks teach our children that they are just animals and share a common heritage with earthworms. Godless judges do not permit the tenets of evolution to even be questioned in our public schools ... even though the evolutionists themselves have nothing but questions! What caused the Big Bang? They don't know. How did life come from non-life? They don't know. The history of evolution is a history of hoaxes. Evolutionists know they have a choice: either life was created by God or life spontaneously generated. They cannot face the former and so they cling to the latter despite having no evidence that it has ever happened. Evolution is not a fact; evolution is a theory. Evolution is not science; evolution is a religion. Read more about these topics at Apologetics Press. Also, see our special lesson on intelligent design. "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse." (Romans 1:20)

Preparing to Teach

Baptism

The Bible teaches that baptism is essential to salvation. It is at the point of our baptism that we enter the kingdom of God and depart the kingdom of darkness. Our deliverance from sin involves a passage through water, which to anyone who knows the Old Testament should not be surprising. It is at our baptism that we die to sin and are raised to walk in newness of life. It is at our baptism that our sins are washed away. To reject these facts is to reject the word of God. The denominations proclaim that he who believes and is saved shall be baptized, but that is not what Jesus said. Jesus said that he who believes and is baptized shall be saved. More...

Read Your Bible!

Most daily Bible reading schedules have two problems.  First, the daily readings are not balanced, with many readings taking three or four times longer than others to complete.  Second, the daily readings offer little variety, with the New Testament being pushed to the very end of the year.  The 52-Week, Balanced, Parallel Daily Bible Reading Plan offered here solves both problems. Click here to read more about it and download your own copy.

God's Plan of Salvation

You must hear the gospel and then understand and recognize that you are lost without Jesus Christ no matter who you are and no matter what your background is. The Bible tells us that “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) Before you can be saved, you must understand that you are lost and that the only way to be saved is by obedience to the gospel of Jesus Christ. (2 Thessalonians 1:8) Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6) “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

You must believe and have faith in God because “without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6) But neither belief alone nor faith alone is sufficient to save. (James 2:19; James 2:24; Matthew 7:21)

You must repent of your sins. (Acts 3:19) But repentance alone is not enough. The so-called “Sinner’s Prayer” that you hear so much about today from denominational preachers does not appear anywhere in the Bible. Indeed, nowhere in the Bible was anyone ever told to pray the “Sinner’s Prayer” to be saved. By contrast, there are numerous examples showing that prayer alone does not save. Saul, for example, prayed following his meeting with Jesus on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:11), but Saul was still in his sins when Ananias met him three days later (Acts 22:16). Cornelius prayed to God always, and yet there was something else he needed to do to be saved (Acts 10:2, 6, 33, 48). If prayer alone did not save Saul or Cornelius, prayer alone will not save you. You must obey the gospel. (2 Thess. 1:8)

You must confess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. (Romans 10:9-10) Note that you do NOT need to make Jesus “Lord of your life.” Why? Because Jesus is already Lord of your life whether or not you have obeyed his gospel. Indeed, we obey him, not to make him Lord, but because he already is Lord. (Acts 2:36) Also, no one in the Bible was ever told to just “accept Jesus as your personal savior.” We must confess that Jesus is the Son of God, but, as with faith and repentance, confession alone does not save. (Matthew 7:21)

Having believed, repented, and confessed that Jesus is the Son of God, you must be baptized for the remission of your sins. (Acts 2:38) It is at this point (and not before) that your sins are forgiven. (Acts 22:16) It is impossible to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ without teaching the absolute necessity of baptism for salvation. (Acts 8:35-36; Romans 6:3-4; 1 Peter 3:21) Anyone who responds to the question in Acts 2:37 with an answer that contradicts Acts 2:38 is NOT proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ!

Once you are saved, God adds you to his church and writes your name in the Book of Life. (Acts 2:47; Philippians 4:3) To continue in God’s grace, you must continue to serve God faithfully until death. Unless they remain faithful, those who are in God’s grace will fall from grace, and those whose names are in the Book of Life will have their names blotted out of that book. (Revelation 2:10; Revelation 3:5; Galatians 5:4)
