Question #52
Do you have any opinion about songs by Darlene Zschech?
What are your comments on the songs by Darlene Zschech of Hillsong church 1.) Shout to the Lord and 2.) The Potter’s Hand?
The Answer:
Prior to receiving this question I had never heard the name “Darlene Zschech.” I don’t recall ever having heard the two songs about which inquiry is made. I did review the lyrics on the internet. I saw nothing unscriptural in the words of Shout to the Lord. I do have some issues with The Potter’s Hand. Much of the modern music seems to cater to an emotional experience. The Potter’s Hand is a “touchy-feely” song that implies, if it does not in fact teach, a direct operation of the Holy Spirit separate and apart from the word of God. The New Testament knows of no such operation is the life of the Christian. Certainly, all true worship is an emotional experience; however, not all emotional experience in a church setting is true worship. In our worship in song we teach and admonish one another. Col. 3:16. It is just as wrong to teach error in song as it is for the preacher to teach error from the pulpit. See a further discussion on this topic by clicking here.
