Question #351
Another question about divorce and remarriage.
Hello I hope you can help me with a question , I have a hard time understanding , I am a widow for 5yrs and meet a great friend we have been for 5ys . He has been married twice, the first was adultery both guiltly parties, the second marriage only one guilty of adultery (her) he was not guilty. Now we are wanting to get married, Can we ? We have both now been baptized, Thank you.
The Answer:
There is sufficient information on this website to answer the question. Please review it. Read your first sentence – both parties were guilty of adultery. The inquiry should end right there. The guilty party may not remarry. Is that not what Matthew 19 and Mark 10 say? While you don’t say when the baptisms took place, assuming they both took place after all of the marrying and remarrying, your new status does not permit the entering of a sinful relationship. If they took place before the remarrying, repentance precludes the remarrying because repentance is a turning away from sin and sinful relationships.
